Project summary

Murgon Shire Council is project coordinating Sustainable Home Murgon, a three bedroom home of lightweight construction on split levels.

The site, which features a park across the street, has a steep 3.5 metre fall requiring the design to consider accessibility.

Now at schematic stage, concepts that were investigated included a courtyard house, linked pavilion and stepped pavilions.

Murgon has a warm temperate climate and during hot, humid summers temperatures can reach the high 30s. In winter, night time temperatures can drop below zero.

Soil conditions are also highly reactive with a type of clay that expands when wet and shrinks when dry. A concrete slab on ground was therefore ruled out in favour of a lightweight floor construction.
